If you have ever wanted to combine travel and study, the Northern Sydney Institute is the place to be!

Ten Early Childhood Education students recently had the opportunity to be a part of the Northern Sydney Institute’s Outbound Mobility Program. This educational initiative, supported by the Australian Government, is designed to give our students an opportunity to expand their learning and to explore international methodologies.

During the 12 day visit, students visited Guangzhou and Beijing, and our partner college, Guangdong Teachers College of Foreign Language and Arts (GTCFLA), to become immersed in the experience of early childhood education across the globe.

All students are studying the Certificate III or Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care, and were accompanied by Health and Community Services Faculty Director Patricia O’Donovan and Lynda Gorman, Teacher Early Childhood Education and Care.

“This is a great opportunity for our students on a personal level, but also on a professional level. Overseas study has been shown to improve academic performance, and the exchange of ideas keeps our practices relevant and can give us insight into how we can improve and grow,” said Ms O’Donovan.

For Certificate III student Martin Swan the trip opened up a new world.

“Just being able to travel and experience a place I have never been before, adds so much to my overall learning,” said Mr Swan.

“I really enjoyed going to the childcare centre in Guangzhou and experiencing how China does things differently,” said Mr Swan.

The Northern Sydney Institute has a strong history of partnerships with schools in Asia and earlier this year students studying business and event management also travelled to China to visit our partner school.
