The Northern Sydney Institute, part of TAFE NSW, congratulates Marisol Miro Quesada Le Roux, winner of the NSW International Student of the Year Award in the Vocational Education and Training Category.

Marisol was presented with the award by the Honourable Andrew Stoner MP and Deputy Premier at an official ceremony at Parliament House on Wednesday 15 May.

Now in its third year, the NSW International Student of the Year Awards recognise and celebrate the achievements of international students in Higher Education, English Language, Vocational Education and Training, and Schools programs.

“It is a great honour to be recognised at a state level for my hard work and contribution to the community,” Marisol said.  “I was proud to be a finalist, but to win is amazing.”

An international student from Peru, Marisol excelled during her studies at the Northern Sydney Institute.  She completed the Diploma of Event Management at the Northern Beaches Campus in December 2012.
“As a student, Marisol is conscientious and talented, with a quiet energy and readiness to support others that is an inspiration to her peers and teachers alike,” said Ron Beeldman, teacher of Travel and Tourism at the Northern Sydney Institute.

During her course, Marisol played a key role in assisting the Green Team at 2012 World Skills Australia, developed a sustainability policy for the Launch of National Skills Week and was the team leader for the first totally sustainable event held at the Northern Beaches Campus.

“Marisol is a leader in the field of sustainability and effecting change from a personal to a local and global level,” Mr Beeldman said.  “Her commitment to this cause and her selfless care for humanity is outstanding and admirable.”

As the founder and principal of Luvya, an ethical company, Marisol is actively pursuing her goal to improve quality of life for communities and address social and environmental issues through sustainable development.

“We applaud Marisol’s accomplishments and are delighted to have her represent the Northern Sydney Institute,” said Virginia Williams, Manager International Business.  “We value our international students and our staff work hard to provide them with a complete learning experience to ensure their success.”

Marisol attributes her great results to the dedication and passion of her teachers.
“They worked together to make sure everyone did their best and delivered a quality program,” she said.  “The support from the International Student Office on campus was fantastic and made it easy to engage with my colleagues.”

Now that her study is complete, Marisol looks forward to putting her added skills into practice with her company.
