A training agreement between TAFE NSW – Northern Sydney Institute (NSI) and Sydney Ferries has seen the completion of sixteen groups of Sydney Ferries masters and staff in the Statement of Attainment in Maritime Operations (Masters Safety Refresher course).
“NSI has created a customised course for our team that provides essential training within appropriate facilities,” said Fiona Love, Director, Training and Development - Sydney Ferries Corporation.
“Sydney Ferries’ Corporation has a reputation for excellence in adult learning and, in conjunction with NSI, we have developed training in emergency response procedures for all ferry staff."
The Masters Course, held at NSI’s Northern Beaches College, is a refresher course tailored specifically for Sydney Ferries by NSI and ensures ferry masters are provided with the most up-to-date skills and practical training every two years.
The life-sized marine simulator at Northern Beaches College provides students with hands on experience in navigation, steering, mooring, radar operations, charting and controlling vessels in poor weather conditions, rescuing a person overboard and braving an eight-metre swell.
