Rew Hanks is an accomplished Printmaking teacher from Meadowbank Campus who has over 25 years of experience in the field.
As an expert printmaker his portfolio continues to grow and can now add Grand Prize Winner of the 9th Kochi International Triennial Exhibition of Prints.
The print he won the award for is titled “Krefft’s Chair” 2012. Rew has said that “it is rare for a non-Japanese printmaker to win this esteemed prize in a country that takes printmaking very seriously.”
Nearly 2,000 prints, including all print mediums, were submitted from printmakers in over 55 countries. Nearly 200 finalists were chosen for the exhibition, which was shown over two floors of the Ino-cho Museum in Kochi in southern Japan.
Rew also won the People’s Choice Award in 2013 with this print for the Burnie Print Prize. Having held 18 solo exhibitions and participated in over 160 group exhibitions, this November Rew displayed an exhibition of his work at Tweed River Gallery. Titled “The Prince, the Tiger and a Toad”, the collection spans 15 years of Hank’s linocuts.
