The Certificate in Construction Pathways provides participants with skills in brick and block laying, carpentry, solid plastering, wall and floor tiling, waterproofing, joinery and shop fitting and stonemasonry.
The course also includes units dealing with safe working practices and construction site knowledge and skills. Josh has also had the opportunity to participate in on‐site workplace experience, building outdoor learning shelters at local schools.
Josh said the course had provided him with a great learning experience.
“It will definitely help me with my future career, it covered lots of different skills.” he said, “There are a few different areas I’m interested in, so this will definitely clarify what area I’d like to work with.”
An advocate of trade skills training and Waitara Rotary Vocational Chairman, Peter Kirkwood, said Rotary recognised the importance of skills training and were pleased support the scholarship program.
“This is a great opportunity for Rotary to focus on the grass roots of vocational training and support trade skills,” he said.
“There are many fantastic, valuable opportunities available for those interested in learning a trade. We need to support these students in their endeavours as they begin building their careers.”
Institute Director Kevin Harris said he was proud to present Josh with the scholarship opportunity.
“It’s important that we come together to provide community members with the opportunity to further their education. Working in partnership with Rotary, Northern Sydney Institute will provide a scholarship that will give participants the skills and knowledge for a future within the construction industry.”
