Student Profile

Student: Agatha Moura
Course: 2014 Cert III and IV Fitness (Personal Training)
Campus: Northern Beaches Campus
Speciality: Aerial and solo acrobatics
Present: Personal Trainer and Circus Art Instructor

What inspired you to do this course?

Acrobatics has always been my passion. I had got a Diploma in Circus Art previously, which helped me developing my circus skills, however after completing the course and getting a job in the industry I realised that it was a big challenge to pass on my knowledge and skills to my students. After analysing my professional expertise I decided to take a step further in my career and enrolled in the fitness course which would give me a deeper understanding on methods and techniques to work with my clients.

What did you enjoy the most?

I definitely enjoyed the structure of my course and the way that the teachers deliver the content. It was completely hands on but not missing the theoretic aspect. We would have theory classes and after that we would go straight to practice which would consolidate our learning experience. Also the campus atmosphere is fantastic, I was surrounded by nature and I had plenty of opportunities to interact with other students through the many activities happening throughout the year.

What does a typical day looks like in your job?

Well, waking up early is a must. As a personal trainer we need to adapt our time to our client’s availability. I need to be strong and have enough energy to keep up with hours of training so I eat very healthily and also sleep at least 8 hours a day.
Communication with my clients is also very important. I need to make sure I am helping them to develop the necessary confidence and skills to progress in their fitness program.
Things like preparing the training zone, keeping the gym floor tidy and free of hazards, preparing the trapezium and silk for classes are also part of my routine.

What advice would you give to other students wanting to work in your industry?

• work with love
• be committed to your clients  goals
• be sure about what you want to achieve in your career
• and have determination.

Where would you like to see yourself in five years’ time?

Owing my own franchise for a great gym.

The Northern Sydney Institute wishes Agatha Moura the best of luck in her new journey as a graduate student!
