NSI recently welcomed John Alexander, Member for Bennelong as he visited Meadowbank College as part of National Skills week (October 1‐8, 2011).

National Skills Week highlights the talents, the skills and the value of apprentices and trainees across Australia to potential employers and highlights the importance of trade training.

Mr Alexander toured college facilities along with NSI Associate Director Brenda Cleaver and Meadowbank College Director Elizabeth Webb and joined a metal work class being run for Royal Australian Navy students.

“Meadowbank TAFE should be congratulated for securing its third tender to train Royal Australian Navy personnel for the next five to seven years in a variety of skilled areas essential to their role in our Defence Forces.” said Mr Alexander.

John Alexander also had the opportunity to join a Small Wind Site Assessment course, the first of its kind in Australia. The course is funded by the Department of Environment and Heritage under the Energy Efficiency Training Program.

Students came from as far away as Tasmania and included staff from TAFE NSW and TAFE South Australia, private grid connect installer companies and Port Macquarie council.

“This class was awe inspiring. It was fascinating to witness some of the most innovative ideas and minds at work, and view green plans for our Nation’s future.” said Mr Alexander.
